ETHICS CONSULTING SERVICES

• 1. Support Ethics Committee
• a. Attend regularly scheduled Ethics committee meetings as required
  b. Review and comment on Ethics Committee materials
  c. Participate in case reviews
• 2. Support use and review of Ethics Framework
• 3. Education
  a. Present education sessions for staff /management as required
  b. Present “lunch and learn” educations sessions as required
  c. Provide Physician Grand Rounds and consultation as required
  d. Develop and present capacity-building workshops for case consultation team
  e. Provide Board education on ethics as required
  f. Provide hospital-wide education sessions as required
  g. Develop and deliver capacity building sessions for Ethics committee members
• 4. Case Consultation
  a. Provide telephone or in person case consultation services on-call as needed.
  The ethicist will provide information/advice/referrals as requested.
  Consultations would be coordinated through the designated hospital liaison, or the Chief Nursing Executive and the Chief of Staff.
  b. Develop and support an ethics consult team as required
• 5. Policy development and review
  a. Participate in the development and review of hospital polices that have an ethical dimension
  b. Provide policy models and templates based on best practices from other health care organizations
  c. Support team to revise and develop ethical decision-making framework.
• 6. Medical Aid in Dying
  a. Participate in case reviews and debriefs as required
• .7. Participate in special projects as required
  a. Participate/facilitate the development of an OHT wide Ethics Framework
• 8. Environmental Scanning
  a. Apprise the hospital of emerging issues and developments in health care ethics
  b. Policy and practice review.
• 9. Accreditation
  a. Participate in the Accreditation planning and implementation process
  b. Insure that the hospital’s Ethics Framework meets or exceeds Accreditation Standards.
